In the above profile, this takes up 7.1% of the main frame loop time, while locking up the main thread. In WebGL, there are no current sensible uses for glFlush() (nor glFinish()), so the time that is taken up by this call is redundant........

I suspect that the glFlush() / glFlushRenderAPPLE() calls are red herrings, or simply artifacts of the way OpenGL profiler accounts for deferred work. Running OpenGL profiler against the discrete GPU (NV) on this machine, glFlush() and glFlushAPPLE() are the top hotspots as well. My guess is that's where the actual work for the multisample resolve ends up, since the attributed time for glBlitFramebufferEXT (8usec/call) seems suspiciously low........

I agree -- I suspect that glFlush() is showing up because that's were we stall due to GPU back-pressure (GPU too far behind on its current work)........
